Dr. Rashid Lui graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2010 with Distinctions in Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Microbiology, Subject Prize in Clinical Oncology, Dean's List of the Faculty of Medicine (2007, 2008, 2009), Head's List of Chung Chi College (2007), 12 other scholarships, and was selected as a Member of the Faculty’s Honour Society. He completed his training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 2016, and is currently pursuing further specialist training in Medical Oncology with hopes to focus on the development of gastrointestinal oncology in the future.
He has received various accolades including the Certificate of Recognition for Young Investigators at Digestive Disease Week 2018, the Young Investigator’s Award (2nd Prize) at Asian Pacific Digestive Week 2018, the Award for Obtaining the Highest Score in Advanced Internal Medicine Exit Assessment and the Young Investigator Research Grant from the Hong Kong College of Physicians in 2018, the Best Oral Presentation Award at the Hospital Authority Convention 2018, and the Exemplary Teachers' Award 2017-2018 from the Faculty of Medicine. He was conferred as the inaugural Stanley Ho Scholar at St Anne’s College in partnership with the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford with a focus on personalised medicine. In 2019 he was nominated as a Distinguished Young Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine and received the Best Original Paper Award from the Hong Kong Medical Journal (HKMJ).
Dr Lui’s research interests include early onset gastrointestinal cancers, advanced endoscopy and gut microbiota modulation. He has published in peer-reviewed journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Gut, Gastroenterology and Nature Communications. He currently serves as a Member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Trainee and Early Career Advisory Group, a Member of the Scientific Committee for Gastrointestinal Tumours of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Asia Congress 2021, and is the Honorary Treasurer for the Hong Kong Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. He also serves as the Social Media Editor for the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, an Editor and Member of the Expert Advisory Panel on Social Media of the HKMJ, an Editorial Board Member of the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and a Junior Editorial Board Member of Hepatoma Research.
