Professor Dr. Dayang Anita Abdul Aziz is presently Director of Tun Fatimah Hashim Women’s Leadership Centre at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Bangi. She is a Paediatric Surgeon by profession. Professor Dayang has many remarkable achievements throughout her academic career with significant leadership roles. She is the first woman Professor in Paediatric Surgery in Malaysia and at UKM. She is also the first woman to lead Paediatric Surgery services in an academic institution in Malaysia; she was Head of Paediatric Surgery at Faculty of Medicine UKM from 2011 till 2019. Professor Dayang was instrumental for the development of Advanced Paediatric Laparoscopic Services and Advanced Surgical Skill Centre for Faculty of Medicine UKM. She was one of the core members for the development of Hospital Kanak-Kanak PERMATA (HKKP) UKM from 2010 to 2014. Professor Dayang developed the four-year-postgraduate Paediatric Surgery Training programme for UKM and is currently the Lead Representative for UKM at the National Paediatric Surgery Conjoined Committee. This programme has helped to train many paediatric surgeons for the country. She is also a member of the Committee of Professional Conduct for Postgraduates. At a higher level of surgical training, she is the Course Director for sub-specialty training programme on Advanced Paediatric Laparoscopy for paediatric surgeons locally and internationally. She is the first Asian to hold the prestigious position as International Examiner for European Board of Paediatric Surgery. Professor Dayang leads the research group on Health Advocacy for Women and Children at Faculty of Medicine UKM since 2019. She is also Co-Chair of the Health Committee for The National Council of Women’s Organisation (NCWO) Malaysia, a consultative body committed to develop a just society in which women at all levels enjoy equality through the promotion of their human rights.
