Norfilza Mohd Mokhtar is currently Professor of Genome Medicine at the Department of Physiology. She is currently the Cluster Chairman for Health & Advanced Medicine, IDEA centre UKM, dealing with the strategic plan on research for the university. She was previously coordinator for the International Program, Faculty of Medicine. She was the President of Malaysian Society of Pharmacology & Physiology from 2018-2020. She received her first degree in Doctor of Medicine, University of Science Malaysia and Master of Medical Science, National University of Malaysia. She underwent molecular biology training under the mentorship of Professor Stephen Charnock Jones and Professor Stephen Smith from the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom from 2001 till 2005. Her research was on the regulation of macrophage inflammatory protein 2 gamma by steroids in endometrium. She was elected as the Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust as well as the life member of Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge. Since then, Norfilza has successfully obtained multiple key national research grants as the principal investigator for the Higher Institution Centre of Excellence grant, Fundamental Research Grant, Exploratory Research Grant Scheme, National ScienceFund grant, Arus Perdana, Dana Impak Perdana grant, Malaysian Research University grant and many industrial grants including Sime Darby, Cotra and Etika Sdn Bhd. Her research projects focusing on genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics and metagenomics aspects on multiple diseases including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, colitis associated cancer and gynaecological diseases. She has published about 60 articles in peer-reviewed international journals.
