Nimish Vakil, MD FACG FACP AGAF FASGE
Dr Vakil is Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison WI. Dr Vakil is a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association the American College of Physicians & the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He has served as the US editor of Endoscopy and as Associate Editor of the American Journal of Gastroenterology.
He has published over 280 articles in such journals as New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, American Journal of Gastroenterology, and Archives of Internal Medicine. He has chaired the Practice parameters committee of the American College of Gastroenterology and served on the publications committee of the American College of Gastroenterology and the Research committee of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr Vakil led an international consensus on the definition of GERD (Montreal Definition of Gasro-esophageal reflux disease.He co-authors the section on Peptic Ulcer disease for Uptodate.
Dr Vakil has received a number of awards including the Blaine Brower fellowship of the American College of Physicians, the research prize of the European H. Pylori study group and an alumnus award from Northwestern University. He is the recipient of the Outstanding Clinician Award of the American Gastroenterological Association in 2021. His research interests include GERD, peptic ulcer disease, H pylori infection and dyspepsia.
