Qualified at Guy's Hospital, London in Psychology 1978 and Medicine in 1981. Clinical and research training in HPB & Transplant Surgery in London and Leeds UK, and in the USA, Sweden and Germany. Senior Lecturer in London 1993, Leeds 1996, full Professor at Nottingham 2002, Head of the Medical School at the University of Limerick, Ireland, 2012, Dean Perdana-University Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland School of Medicine, Kuala Lumpur in 2017. Commencing as Head of Medicine & Health Sciences, Bangor University, Wales, UK in August 2021. Research Doctorate University of Leeds and Hunterian Professorship of the Royal College of Surgeons in England 1996. First reports in acute pancreatitis of contrast-enhanced CT, APACHE-II and the Cochrane review of antibiotic prophylaxis, also miRNA signatures in pancreatic cancer and cannabinoid modulation of intestinal permeability. President of the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain & Ireland 2002-3. Masters in Education, University of London 2005. National Director of Education at the Royal College of Surgeons of England 2008-12. Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Ireland and Glasgow and the American College of Surgeons.
