Dato Dr Tan Huck Joo is a Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist, and the Medical Director at CENGILD GI Medical Centre, a dedicated tertiary referral centre in Gastroenterology/Hepatology and gastrointestinal surgery in Malaysia. Dato Dr Tan is a graduate from University College Dublin, National University of Ireland and subsequently received his doctorate degree in Gastroenterology & Hepatology from the same university. He received his postgraduate training in the United Kingdom and he is currently a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London, Edinburgh and Glasgow, UK, a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Malaysia, a Fellow of both the American College of Gastroenterology, as well as the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dato Dr Tan was a council member of the National Specialist Register for gastroenterology and hepatology, Malaysia. He was the Chairman of the Awards Committee and Network Committee, Asia Pacific Association of Gastroenterology. He was the President and Scientific Chairman of the Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of the Asia Pacific Digestive Week 2010. Dr Tan sits in the Editorial Board of the Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and World Journal of Gastroenterology. Dr Tan was one of the expert panelists of the Asia Pacific Consensus Guidelines for the management of Helicobacter pylori in 2008. He was also the Chairman of the Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology-National Heart Association Malaysia Working Party Statement for antiplatelet therapy in the prevention of bleeding peptic ulcer disease. Dato Dr Tan has published extensively in international journals. He is a frequent invited speakers and key opinion leader, both nationally and internationally for scientific conferences and meetings. Dr Tan’s special interest is in Helicobacter pylori related diseases and advanced therapeutic endoscopy.
