Evelien Dekker
Professor Evelien Dekker, MD, PhD University of Amsterdam, Netherlands Evelien Dekker is a board-certified gastroenterologist and Professor of Gastrointestinal Oncology at the University of Amsterdam Faculty of Medicine. Professor Dekker obtained her PhD from the University of Amsterdam and received her medical training in internal medicine and gastroenterology from the Academic Medical Center (AMC) at the University of Amsterdam. She currently is head of the multidisciplinary clinic for hereditary colorectal carcinoma and medical director of an expert colonoscopy centre. Professor Dekker’s research focusses primarily on colon cancer; her research group concentrates on the screening methods for colorectal and familial cancer, the quality and novel technical developments within colonoscopy, the treatment of intestinal polyps and early-stage intestinal carcinoma, and hereditary intestinal cancer and polyposis syndromes. Professor Dekker is the global chair of the WEO colorectal cancer Screening Committee. She has been actively involved in the Dutch national screening programme for colorectal cancer for over a decade; she is chair of the Dutch Colonoscopy Surveillance Guideline Committee and a member of several other guideline committees in the Netherlands and at a European level (ESGE). She has co-authored over 350 scientific articles.
