Dr. Aggarwal is Director and Professor of Gastroenterology at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry, India. Besides gastroenterology and hepatology, he has received formal training in epidemiology and laboratory work. The primary area of his research work is viral hepatitis, in particular hepatitis E. He has undertaken several epidemiologic, molecular and immunologic studies on hepatitis E, and has written several reviews on various aspects of this disease. Other areas of his interest include hepatitis B and C, hepatic venous outflow tract obstruction, vaccines and immunization, health economics, and gut microbiota. He is a member of several national and international bodies, including WHO’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Group on Viral Hepatitis and WHO’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization. He is Chair of the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Foundation. He is also the immediate Past President of the Indian Association for the Study of Liver. He has been conducting the Young Clinical Investigator Program at consecutive APDW conferences every year since 2015.
