Professor Gerald Holtmann is an internationally recognised physician scientist with high-level management and leadership experience. He is Director of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Gastroenterology Stream Lead in Queensland. He serves as Director of Clinical Innovation at the University of Queensland. Professor Holtmann is on the Board of Directors of the West Moreton Hospital and Health Service, chairing the Quality and Safety Committee of this organisation. In addition to his clinical and research knowledge he has extensive management experience as CEO of a large University Hospital, General Manager of a Proton Therapy Centre, and experience on boards of non-profit organisations such as the Gallipoli Foundation. Internationally he is recognised for his work in the field of Neurogastroenterology and Health Service Innovations. The impact of his work is reflected by 300 peer reviewed publications with more than 25,00 publications that have informed many clinical guidelines and policies. He is Chief Investigator of recently awarded NHMRC projects targeting the gut microbiome or novel approaches to improve outcomes of patients with unexplained Gastrointestinal symptoms. Prof Holtmann is also Chief Investigator of the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Digestive Health.
