Professor Rupert Leong is Director of Endoscopy and Head of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Services at Concord Hospital, Clinical Discipline Head of Gastroenterology at Macquarie University Hospital, and Professor of Medicine at University of Sydney and Macquarie University, Australia. He is a past Career Development Fellow (level 2 clinical) of the NHMRC. Professor Leong has published as senior author a number of national and international consensus guidelines, most recently the regulation and use of faecal microbiota transplantation in Gut. He is Associate Editor of Therapeutic Advances in Gastroenterology and is on the international editorial boards of the American Journal of Gastroenterology, Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Prof Leong is an executive member of government bodies including the Agency for Clinical Innovation of NSW Health nominated for expertise in IBD and the Cancer Council of Australia Working Party on the revision of the clinical practice guidelines for colonoscopy and colorectal cancer, leading the section on surveillance colonoscopy in inflammatory bowel disease. Professor Leong was awarded the American Gastroenterological Association Fellowship by invitation on the basis of research excellence in 2012. He is the founding director of IBD Sydney, IBD School and IBD Masterclass. He has supervised international fellows from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Sweden, England, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland.
