Jeong-Sik Byeon, M.D. is a gastroenterologist and endoscopy specialist, especially in the field of colonoscopy and small bowel endoscopy. Dr. Byeon is a Professor of Gastroenterology at Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea. Prior to joining Asan Medical Center as an assistant professor in 2004, Dr. Byeon completed his internal medicine residency at Seoul National University hospital and gastroenterology fellowship training at Asan Medical Center in Seoul, Korea. He has been the secretary general of KASID (Korean Association for the Study of Intestinal Diseases) from Apr 2019 to Apr 2021. He is now the director of Task Force for Clinical Practice Guideline of KSGE (Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy). Dr. Byeon’s research interests are in various endoscopy procedures, especially advanced diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and small bowel endoscopy. He is also interested in colorectal cancer screening and surveillance. He published many papers about colorectal ESD, stenting, enteroscopies, and epidemiological data about colorectal neoplasm. Currently, he has been also interested in computer-aided detection and diagnosis of colorectal neoplasm by using artificial intelligence and development of new generation endoscopy equipped with computer-aided functions. He has made many speeches about advanced diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and small bowel endoscopy in many international meetings. His clinical researches about colonoscopy, small bowel endoscopy and colorectal cancer screening/surveillance has led to academic awards in Korea and publications in SCI journals. He also received an award of the Best Reviewer of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in DDW 2017.
