Welcome Message from the President of Asian Pacific Digestive Week 2021
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
The world is in a race to contain the Covid-19 pandemic as cases surge sporadically in different parts of the world, in particular, in recent months in Malaysia. As a result, increased precautionary measures and restrictions on all activities have been implemented in order to stem the tide to protect our communities and our loved ones.
In alignment with this effort, the Local Organising Committee has made the difficult but necessary decision to transform the APDW 2021, with the theme of ‘Vision of Excellence in Digestive Disorders & Sciences’ to a virtual conference, scheduled on 19 -22 August 2021. We are committed to maintain the high standards of the meeting while safeguarding the health and safety of all our participants.
APDW has always served as a critical forum for education, promoting knowledge exchange, clinical expertise, research innovation, while serving as a platform for networking and forming genuine connections. We will continue to serve these purposes as we offer a virtual postgraduate course, pre-congress workshops, live endoscopy streaming, scientific lectures that showcase the up-to-date information with the latest innovations in the field of gastroenterology, hepatology, gastrointestinal surgery, endoscopy, career advancement symposia with many lectures including special symposia on Covid-19 led by distinguished key opinion leaders from all over the world. Despite the uncertain times we all find ourselves in, we will continue to deliver world-class education to sustain clinical and research efforts that may very well lead to significant scientific discoveries in the near future.
Allow me to also take this opportunity to extend my deepest personal appreciation for your continued support, as it is you, our most valued participants, that will bring everything Virtual APDW 2021 aspires to be, into reality. My sincere thanks, also, to the gifted scientific chairs and committee members who are giving their all to continuously deliver excellence.
I look forward to welcoming you virtually in August 2021.
Raja Affendi Raja Ali
President, Asian Pacific Digestive Week (APDW 2021)
Welcome Message from the President of Asian Pacific Society for Digestive Endoscopy
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of the Asian-Pacific Society of Digestive Endoscopy (A-PSDE), it is my great pleasure to welcome all of you to the Asian Pacific Digestive Week (APDW) 2021 in Kuala Lumpur on 19 - 22 August.
Every year, APDW has been doing a great success in providing a valuable opportunity for numerous leader experts in the gastrointestinal field from the Asian-Pacific region to gather and share the latest information and technologies among ourselves.
This year, the Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology will be the Organising Committee. With the uncertainties of the COVID-19 situation, the Organising Committee will convert this significant event into a virtual conference, which shows their great concern on the safety of our participants and the community. With the increasing demand of online learning around the world, it is doubtless to say everyone will be craving to join APDW2021, which will be another remarkable gastrointestinal event of the year.
A-PSDE will continue to give our greatest support to the virtual congress and we look forward to seeing you online!
President, Asian Pacific Society for Digestive Endoscopy (A-PSDE)
Welcome Message from the President of Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I would like to commend the Organising Committee for making a wise choice to convert APDW 2021 into a digital meeting in view of the prolonged uncertainties and the tricky situation on COVID-19 in the coming months. This decision has been made in the best interest of the health safety of faculty, participants and biomedical industry partners.
As in the past years, the APDW has successfully attracted many clinicians and scientists working in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology not only from the Asia Pacific region, but from all over the world. This is the second time the APDW is held in Kuala Lumpur, the first was in 2010. The APAGE is proud to be associated in the organisation of this edition of the Congress and I am confident the Organising Committee will spare no effort to ensure that this virtual edition will equal if not surpasses the previous one in terms of scientific and academic content.
We will miss the usual opportunity to renew old friendship and make new acquaintances provided at face-to-face conferences but I am sure there will be avenues for us to meet and network on the virtual platform. Come 2022, I hope we can all meet in Xian, China for the APDW 2022.
Please come and join us for virtual APDW 2021.
President, Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology (APAGE)
Welcome Message from the President of Asian Pacific Digestive Week Federation
Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Industry Partners,
I am pleased to announce that APDW 2021 is going to be held on a totally web-based virtual platform. Although we will miss intimate face-to-face communications and all the local charms of Malaysia, I think this option is the best we can think of in the face of SARS-Cov-2 pandemic to avoid infection risk, in particular for all the doctors and medical associates who are fighting against SARS-Cov-2 at their clinics on a daily basis.
Indeed, web-based meetings have spread throughout the world and became the norm in these challenging times. Meeting running including question and answer sessions has become remarkably smooth and based on my personal experience, taking part in a web meeting feels like you are attending a real one. All the important programs, such as live endoscopy demonstration, state-of-the-art lectures, prize lectures and post-graduate educational lectures will be fully maintained. Needless to say, they can be enjoyable in your home or at your work place any time without the hassle of travel and the risk of contracting the infection, which is a great merit of web-based meetings. Furthermore, according to my request, LOC set up an extraordinary symposium focusing on SARS-Cov-2 and gastroenterology, which I recommend as a “must-see” session. Despite of all the difficulties in the face of SARS-Cov-2 pandemic, APDW 2021 is now taking shape as the first virtual APDW meeting in history. Unprecedented efforts and enthusiasm of local organizing committee led by Professor Raja Affendi aimed at converting APDW into a virtual meeting should be greatly praised.
Finally, this is my last greeting for APDW as the president of APDWF. I sincerely express my gratitude for all the colleagues that have contributed to continuous success of APDW in the past. No doubt, I believe that APDW will gain further strength after overcoming this critical endemic.
I am looking forward to your continuous support for APDW by attending this historic first virtual meeting.

Welcome Message from the President of International Society for Digestive Surgery – Asian Pacific (ISDS-AP)
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of the International Society for Digestive Surgery – Asian Pacific, I am writing to invite you to join the Virtual APDW 2021 on 19 to 22 August 2021. Despite of the raging COVID-19 pandemic, the Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and the Local Organizing Committee have been working very hard to make this meeting a most memorable one.
This is the very first APDW that is going to be held virtually. With a theme of “Vision of Excellence in Digestive Disorders & Sciences”, the Scientific Program is going to be top-rated and you are most welcomed to further enrich the Program by submitting and presenting your abstracts at the meeting.
Online virtual meeting is currently the new “normal” and we all miss the physical meetings that we used to attend. Before we could meet physically, let’s continue to participate actively in the scientific sessions and renew old friendships as well as make new connections online.
APDW 2021 will certainly be one of the most important and informative digestive meeting in the Asia Pacific for the year 2021!
We look forward to meeting you online at APDW 2021!

Welcome Message from the President of Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
On behalf of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL), it is my great pleasure to invite you to the Asian Pacific Digestive Week (APDW) 2021, which is scheduled to be held from August 19th to 22nd in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
APDW is the most prominent event of the year for gastroenterologists and hepatologists in the Asia-Pacific region. This year, the organizing committee of the APDW 2021 has developed a comprehensive and exciting scientific program that will enable participants to share their expertise, remarkable achievements and innovative ideas through active intellectual collaboration.
APDW 2021 will be the first virtual conference in the history of APDW, and I believe that this special circumstance will provide us with a very good opportunity to establish common grounds through broader international academic exchange and education of participants from various regions in the Asia-Pacific area. I have no doubt that APDW 2021 will be as successful as, if not surpass, the past in-person conferences.
I would like to thank the organizing committee of APDW 2021 and especially president Raja Affendi Raja Ali for their outstanding efforts to prepare and realize, as the main theme suggests, the “Vision of Excellence in Digestive Disorders & Sciences” even during this unprecedented environment of COVID-19 pandemic.
We sincerely look forward to meeting you at APDW 2021.
Jin Mo Yang
President, Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL)
